What is the largest marathon event in terms of participants?

As of my last update in September 2021, the largest marathon event in terms of participants is the TCS New York City Marathon. The New York City Marathon is one of the most iconic and prestigious marathons in the world, attracting thousands of runners from around the globe.

The New York City Marathon is organized annually by New York Road Runners (NYRR) and has been held since 1970. The event typically takes place on the first Sunday of November. The racecourse covers all five boroughs of New York City, starting in Staten Island and finishing in Central Park, Manhattan.

The popularity of the New York City Marathon has grown significantly over the years, and it consistently attracts a massive number of participants. In a typical year, the race hosts around 50,000 to 55,000 registered runners, making it the largest marathon in terms of participants.

The event's size and diversity make it a celebration of running, culture, and community spirit. The streets of New York City come alive with spectators, music, and cheers from millions of people who line the course to support the runners.

Due to its immense popularity, entry into the New York City Marathon is highly competitive. Many runners participate through a lottery system or by qualifying based on previous marathon times. Additionally, the race attracts elite runners from all over the world, making it a prominent event in the professional marathon circuit.

The TCS New York City Marathon is not only renowned for its large number of participants but also for its unique and scenic course, energetic atmosphere, and the challenge it poses to runners as they conquer the city's diverse terrain and face the cheers of the enthusiastic crowd.

Please note that participation numbers in large events like marathons can vary from year to year, and it is advisable to check the most recent information from race organizers or official sources for the latest participant figures.
